NorCal Region Good Health WINs Mini-Grants

The NorCal Region of National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) mini-grant program engages NorCal Region Sections and community partners for projects within the Northern California Region. We will work together to increase equity in immunization for vaccination preventable diseases; build community confidence in family medical decision making. Eligible organizations can apply to receive mini-grants between $500-$1,000. Due to limited funds, not all applications submitted will receive funding. See below for eligibility requirements.

Goal:

The mini-grants will support NCNW’s goal to create a network of national and local partners who will raise awareness on immunization for vaccination preventable diseases (i.e., COVID-19, shingles, influenza pneumonia, MMR, etc.) and contribute to the evidence based of effective interventions to improve vaccine coverage. This goal will be accomplished by engaging the community in vaccine education and promotion programs that serve the underserved and at-risk populations.

Sections may only submit one application at a time for a maximum of $1,000. Once the first project is completed and the final report for that project is submitted and approved, the Section may be eligible to submit a new application.

All mini-grant projects must be completed by Saturday, February 24, 2024

About the program

Program Eligibility

  • The program is open to all Sections of the Northern California Region of NCNW
  • Priority will go to grants that also address the NorCal Focus and Scope of Work as listed below, and that show sustainability beyond the grant funding, and include collaborative work.

Mini Grant Focus

  • Launch campaigns to address barriers, myths and hesitancy to COVID and Flu prevention and treatment.
  • Increase vaccine confidence and acceptance while reinforcing prevention measures such as mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing.
  • Provide the public with factual medical and government information about COVID, Flu and other vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Expand the number of vaccinated individuals and encouraging others to receive vaccinations for COVID, the Flu and other vaccine preventable diseases.

Mini Grant Scope of Work

  • Co-hosting or supporting COVID-19 or vaccine preventable disease events.
  • Develop and strengthen two (2) community partnerships.

Scope of Work Requirements

  • Host or co-hosting an adult COVID-19 or Vaccination event/activity/program at the Section
  • All Hosted events must collaborate with the following:
  • NCNW Collegiate Sections
  • Participating GHWINs NCNW Sections
  • NCNW Affiliates and other National Partners
  • Schools, churches, Health Department, State Coalitions, and other vaccine administrators
  • Non-profit advocacy organizations
  • Attend Bi-Weekly GHWINs Community of Practice Meetings.
  • Reporting to the Monthly GHWIN’s Event Submission Form

Reporting Requirements

Reports are due monthly throughout the duration of the agreement. Reporting Dates:

November 2, 2023
December 4, 2023
January 3, 2024
February 2, 2024
March 4, 2024
March 11, 2024 (Final report)

Submit monthly detailed reports to Cheryl Johnson on the 2nd business day of each month. Information should include:

  • Section Project Team Member Participation
  • Project Collaborator Participation
  • Total attendance by race for physical/virtual events reported
  • Hesitancy Reasons or Lack of Access Issues for physical/virtual events reported
  • Total Reach of social media outlets (i.e., Facebook, Instagram Insights, etc.)

Funding

Mini-grant funding will be distributed in two installments. The first installment, 75% of the grant, will be distributed after award is formally announced. The final 25% of the grant will be awarded upon completion of the project and submission of the final report. Payments will be mailed to the Section mailbox.

NorCal may delay or withhold funds from Sections if there is a failure to: complete any reporting requirement; or establish or maintain a Section Project Team; or attend CoP sessions; or submit the monthly or final report.

Repeated failure to fulfill program responsibilities may result in dismissal from NorCal Mini Grant and/or repayment of allocated funds. Notice of dismissal shall be made to the Section’s President. Following dismissal notification, the Section shall have five (5) days from the date of notice to cure any deficiency.

Final Selections

A representative from NorCal’s Good Health WNs Team will contact the recipient via email and/or phone call. The formal, public announcement will be made via email August 7, 2023.

There will also be a mandatory orientation for all awardees and their teams on Thursday, August 10, 2023 via Zoom.
